Larry Ellison is an American billionaire entrepreneur and businessman who co-founded the software company Oracle Corporation in 1977. He was born on August 17, 1944, in New York City, to an unwed Jewish mother and was later adopted by his aunt and uncle.


Ellison dropped out of two different universities before starting his career in computing in the mid-1960s. He worked at several technology companies, including Ampex Corporation, where he worked on a project that involved developing a database for the CIA.


In 1977, Ellison co-founded Oracle Corporation with two colleagues, Bob Miner and Ed Oates. Oracle initially focused on developing a commercial database management system (DBMS) for the CIA, but later shifted its focus to developing software for enterprise customers. Ellison served as the company's CEO until 2014, and is now the company's chief technology officer and executive chairman of the board.


Under Ellison's leadership, Oracle became one of the world's largest software companies, with annual revenues of over $39 billion in 2020. The company's software is used by businesses of all sizes, from small startups to Fortune 500 companies.


Ellison is also known for his lavish lifestyle, which includes multiple mansions, yachts, and a private island. He has been married four times and has two children.


In addition to his work at Oracle, Ellison is also involved in philanthropy.
